कर्नल फेर यांच्या गैरवर्तनाचा योग्य परिणाम. ( १३३ ) कर्नल फेर यांच्या संबंधानें मुंबईसरकारच्या वर्तनाविषयों आपण आणखी थोडा- सा विचार करूं. आतां असे करतांना कांहीं द्विरूक्ति होईल पण कर्नल फेर यांचा कैवार घेतांना आपण त्यास काय ह्मटले होते ते मुंबई सरकार विसरलें असे आप - ल्यास पुढील हकीगतीवरून समजेल.
तारीख २४ आगष्ट सन १८७४च्या पत्रांत मुंबईसरकारांनी त्यांस असे लि. हिलें होतें कीं, बडोद्याच्या राज्यकारभारांत सुधारणूक व्हावी हाच गवरनर जनरल यांचा मुख्य उद्देश असतां तुझी सरकारच्या हुकुमाकडेस अलक्ष करून दिवाणाचे पूर्ण वैरी होऊन बसलांत. आणि तसे करून तुमच्या व दिवाणाच्या मनःपूर्वक एका विचाराने राज्यकारभारांत जी सुधारणा व्हावयाची त्यांत पराकाष्ठेचे विघ्न आणिळेंत. मुंबईसरकारांनी वरील वाक्यांतील प्रत्येक शब्दानें कर्नल फेर बडोद्याच्या दर- बारांत राहूं देण्यास योग्य नव्हते, असें स्पष्टपणें उल्लिखित केले असता, त्यांनी ग वरनर जनरल यांजबरोबर असा वाद घातला कीं, त्यांस तुझीं भळत्याच वेळेस बडोद्यांतून काढिलें. गवरनर जनरल यांचा काय तो उद्देश राज्यकारभारांत सुधार, णूक व्हावी हा आणि तीही अठरा महिन्यांच्या अवधीत आणि त्या गोष्टीस कर्नछ फेर तर पराकाष्ठेचे प्रतिकूळ आणि त्यांस बडोद्याच्या दरबारांतून काढूं नये असा मुंबईसरकारचा पराकाष्ठेचा दुराग्रह; तेव्हां गवरनर जनरल यांच्या उद्देशाहून मुंबई- सरकारचा उद्देश भिन्न होता, असे सहज मानितां येईल. मग तो कोणता असेल तो असो. कर्नल फेर यांस टपका दिल्यावर ते वैरभाव सोडून देऊन राजाबरोबर व दि वाणाबरोबर मित्रभाव ठेवून, व त्यांस चांगली सलामसलत देऊन राज्यांत सुधार. णूक करण्याचा गवरनर जनरल यांचा इष्ट हेतु सिद्धसि नेतील, असे मुंबईसरका- रांनी मानिलें होतें. असे ह्मणावें तर त्यास त्यांच्याच लेखानें विरोध येतो. तारीख १४ दिसेंबर सन १८७४ रोजी त्यांनीं गवरनर जनरल यांस पत्र
