Frigid denotes that which is by nature relatively cold; as, "The F. zone." A frigid style of speaking or writing is one which neither conveys nor excites warmth of feeling or brightness of thought. Cold expresses the absence of heat physically or metaphorically; as, " C. weather ; C. reception." Cool is employed not so much of temperament ( like cold and frigid) as of the state of mind under certain circumstances, and is associated with the praiseworthy as cold with the contrary ; as, “ Cool determination or courage; Cool indifference."
