[ भाग ती बौद्ध धर्मानेक्षां देखील पुराणतर आहे. निदान ती इ. स. पूर्वी चवथ्या शतकाच्या अलीकडील तरी खचित नाहीं, अर्से विद्वान् आणि शाधक पंडितोंचें ह्मणणे आहे; व ते अनेकै प्रमाणांवरून सिद्धही होत आहे. असे असून, डाक्तर लॉरिन्सर, लॉसन, वेबर, वगैरे मंडळी अर्से निःशंकपणे प्रतिपादन करिते कीं, ह्या- गीतेंतील मूलतत्वें व नीतिविचार, हीं सर्व नव्या करारां- तूनच घेतली आहेत. आतां, जर गीता बौध धैर्मापूर्वी, ह्मणजे इ. स. पू. सुमारें पांचशे वर्षे अगोदर उदयास आली होती तर, १. “But in the absence of any thing else, I think that they ( materials ) furnish quite sufficient ground for holding, at least as a sort of provisional hypothesis, that the Gita is older, and not later, than the rise of Buddism.
