[ भाग तुलना केली तर सर जोन्स यांचें पारडें सत्यन्यायप्रका- शनाच्या गुरुत्वामुळें अगदी खालीं राहून, मेकालेचें पारडें कचऱ्याच्या मोलाचें असल्या कारणानें, ते तृणासारखें आकाशांत इतस्ततः परिभ्रमण करील, यांत बालाग्रही संशय नाही. सदरहू विद्वानांच्या विद्वत्तेचें खरें स्वरूप, आणि विचारनिरूपणशक्ती, हीं योग्य रीतीनें कळण्या- साठी, त्यांच्याच उक्तींचें समग्र अवतरण या खाली देतों. बरें, संस्कृत आणि आरबी भाषेची जी इतकी निर्भ- र्त्सना मेकॉलेनी केली, ती त्या भा पां अविचारी पाश्चात्यां- चा धृष्टपणा. स्वतःला असून त्यांनी केली असती, तर तें १ "I have never found one among the Orientalists themselves who could deny that a single shelf of a good European library was worth the whole native literature of India and Arabia ! “I certainly never met with any Orientalists who ventured to maintain that the Arabic and Sanskrit Poetry could be compared to that of the great European nation !! “ I doubt whether the Sanskrit literature be as valuable as that of our Saxon and Norman pro- genitors. सर वुइल्यम् जोन्स हे संस्कृत भाषेविषयीं असे लिहितात कीं:- “It is of a wonderful structure more perfect than the Greek, more copious than the Latin, and more exquisitely refined than either.” (Asiatic Researches Vol. I P. 422. )
