१७ महाराणी जमनाबाई साहेब ह्यांनी आपल्या पुत्राच्या शिक्षणाचल विशेष काळजी घेतल्यामुळे बडोदे संस्थानास विद्यालंकृत व प्रजाहित तत्पर नपति प्राप्त झाला असे ह्मणण्यास हरकत नाही. सयाजीराव महा- राज ह्यांच्या ठिकाणी नैसर्गिक बुद्धितेज अगोदर असाधारण असल्या- मुळे त्यांत सुशिक्षणाची भर पडतांच तें अत्यंत प्रकाशमान झाले व त्याने गायकवाड सरकाराच्या राजकुलाची कीर्ति उज्ज्वल केली, असे वाटले असतां अतिशयोक्ति होणार नाही. सर टी. माधवराव ह्यांनी महाराज लहान असतांच एके वेळी असे उद्गार काढिले होते की, "ह्या अल्पवयी महाराजांची असाधारण बुद्धिक्षमता हळूहळू चांगली व्यक्त होत चालली असून, परमेश्वराच्या कृपेने हे, त्यांच्या गळ्यांतील बहुमूल्य व तेजस्वी रत्नहारापेक्षांहि अनंतपटीने अधिक मूल्यवान व अधिक दैदीप्यवान असे सगुण संपादन करतील, आणि पुनः संस्था- पित राज्याचे एक चतुर व नीतिसंपन्न नृपति निपजतील अशी आशा करण्यास सबळ कारण आहे."* हे उद्गार किती खरे झाले व महा- tigence.
