यूरोपिअन् टीकाकारांच्या संबंधानें
कांहीं गंमती.

(We make room below for some extracts from Dr. Peterson's book which will go a long way to prove that, at least under the present condition of their study of it, the European commentators cannot well expect to be regarded even so much as authori- ties on the Rigweda much less can they dream of superseding Sayanacharya. We have only a limited space at our disposal and so the extracts that we can give, are necessarily very few. But even these few will we think, be extremely interesting. The European writers do not only contradict each other at every step, but the most funny thing is that, in several places, they contradict even themselves. Instances are not also wanting where the writer occasionally shows his inability to understand some simple Sanskrit passages in the Sayana-Bhashya. When we see such men, with a preparation no better than this, cherishing sweet hopes of achieving great conquests on the field of Vedic Literature, at best we can only pity them.)
