करमणूक होऊन त्याबरोबर नाटकप्रयोग पाहण्याचीही त्यांची उत्कंठा वाढते. इंग्रजी भाषेतील अशी हस्तपत्रकें पुष्कळ देतां येण्यासारखें हें स्थळ नसल्यामुळे गोल्ड स्मिथचे 'शी स्टूप्स टु काँकर' हें नाटक रंगभूमीवर येतेवेळीं विलायतेंत कॉमेडीसंबंधाने झालेला ग्रह पालटण्याच्या हेतूनें जो एक खुबिदार चुटका प्रसिद्ध झालेला आहे तो मासल्याकरितां येणें देतोः
 "It is with much pleasure," writes the Morning Chronicle on the occasion of his benefit night "we can inform the public that the ingenious and engaging Miss Comedy is in a fair way of recovery. This much admired young lady has lately been in a very declining Way and was thought to be dying of a sentimental consumption. She is now under the care of Dr. Goldsmith who has already prescribed twice for her. The medicines sat extremely easy upon her stomach and she appears to be in fine spirits. The Doctor is to pay her a third visit this evening, and it is expected he will receive a very handsome fee from the Lady's friends and admirers."
 मराठींत शाहूनगरवासी मंडळीचीं एक दोन हस्त पत्रकें पूर्वी थोड्या निराळ्या धर्तीवर लिहिलेली आह्मांस पाहण्यास मिळालीं आहेत. ती वाचकांच्या माहि तीसाठीं मुद्दाम येथे देतों :-
 छे बोवा, रात्र अंधेरी, तशांतून पावसाची झिमझिम, रस्त्यांतून चिखल आणि म्युनिसिपालिटीच्या कंदिलांचा दुष्काळ! अशा वेळी दिवसाचे नाटक बघण्याचे सोडून कोण जातो रात्री त्रासांत पडायला! तशांतूनहीं गेलो असतो; परंतु हे दिवस पडले पावसा
