Religious & Social Matters. २०३ [३२३] राघो गोविंद यांस सनद की, आप्पाजी चिमणाजी देहडाराय यजुर्वेदी ब्राह्मण वस्ती कसबे पुणतांबें उमर वर्षे २० यास काही भ्रम होता यामुळे इहिदे खमसेन सातारीयास गेला. तेथें बनसीपुरीयाजकडील गोसावीयांजवळ गेला. मया व अलफा त्यांणी डोके बोडन गोसावी केला. त्यास १५ दिवस झाले. उपरांतिक साबान २१. " भ्रम गेला तेव्हां गोसावी याजवळ भांडों लागला. हरदुजण भांडत पुणेयाचे मुक्कामी हुजूर येऊन वर्तमान विदित केले. त्यावरून मनास आणितां गोसावी यांजकडे अन्याय लागला. त्याचे पारिपत्य केले. त्यास आप्पाजी चिमणाजी हा वैशाखमासी गोसावी जाहला. दिवस बहुत झाले नाहीत. याजकरितां याचे मतें ब्राह्मण व्हावें ऐसा चित्तास पश्चात्ताप झाला. त्यावरून पुण्याचे थोर शिष्ट ब्राह्मण यांस आपले वर्तमान आपाजीने सांगितले. त्यावरून त्यांच्या मते यास चांद्रायण प्रायश्चित्त द्यावें ऐसा सिद्धांत ब्राह्मणाचे मते जाहला. त्याची याद साहित्याची आलाहिदा आहे. त्यावरून हे पत्र तुझांस सादर केले आहे. तरी तुहीं पुणतांबें व टोके व प्रवरासंगम या क्षेत्रांचे ब्राह्मणांचे विद्यमानें व पुणेयांतील ब्राह्मणाने लिहून दिल्हें आहे त्याप्रमाणे सर्वांच्या मते प्रायश्चित्त द्यावें ऐसा सिद्धांत झाला. तरी गंगातीरीं यास प्रायश्चित्त देऊन ब्राह्मण होय ते करणे. आपाजीस प्रायश्चित्तानिमित्य रुपये २०० दोनशेपर्यंत तुझी आपले विद्यमानें खर्च लावून उत्तम प्रकारे यांचे साहित्य करणे. दोनशे रुपयाशिवाय जास्ती खर्च लागला तरी याचा हा मिळवून देईल ह्मणून सनद १.मो 323 A Sanad issued to Ragho Govind,--Appaji Chimnaji, Dehadraye Jodh Yajurvedi Brahmin, inhabitant of Kasba Puntambe aged 20 years A. D. 1750-51. became insane and went to Satara. There he went to a Gosavi मा (ascetic ) of the Bansipuri clan, who shaved him and made him a Gosavi. After a fortnight, the fit of insanity having passed away, he began to quarrel with the Gosavi. Both of them came to Poona, and represented to the Huzur what had occurred, on enquiry it was found that the Gosavi was to blame and he was accordingly punished. Appaji Chimnaji became Gosavi in the month of Vaishakh. He has since repented and wishes to be a Brahmin again. He related his story to the respectable Brahmins of Poona, who gave it as their opinion that he could be admitted into the caste on the performance of a Chandrayan ' (penance). A list of materials required for the penance has been prepared. You are therefore requested to have the penance cerimony performed on the banks of the Godavari in the presence of the Brahmins of the sacred places of Puntambe, Toke and Pravarasangam, in accordance with the opinion of the Brahmins of Poona, and to do everything necessary to make tho said Appaji a Brahmin. You are authorized to spend a sum upto Rs. 200 (two hundred) on occount of the ponance which should be performed in your presence.
