बायजाबाई रेसिडेन्सीमध्यें आल्यानंतर, ब्रिटिश रेसिडेंट मि. क्याव्हेंडिश ह्यांनी त्यांस ग्वाल्हेर सोडून बाहेर जाल, तर महाराज जनकोजीराव ह्यांचेकडून तुह्मांस कांहीं उपद्रव होणार नाही, असें अभिवचन दिलें; व त्यांना आपखुषीनें किंवा खुषीच्या सक्तीनें ग्वाल्हेर संस्थानच्या बाहेर पाठविलें. बायज़ाबाईसाहेब ह्यांजवर ह्या वेळीं महत्संकट आल्यामुळें त्यांना नाइलाजास्तव ब्रिटिश रेसिडेंटाचें ह्मणणें कबूल करावें लागलें, व तत्काळ त्या ग्वाल्हेर सोडून प्रथमतः सहा मैल अंतरावर कसोली ह्मणून गांव आहे तेथें गेल्या; व तेथून धोलपुरास गेल्या. धोलपूर येथें त्यांनी कांही दिवस मुक्काम केला व ब्रिटिश सरकारास विनंतिपत्रें पाठवून आपली दाद घ्यावी ह्मणून विनंति केली. परंतु तिचा कांहींएक उपयोग झाला नाहीं. उलट, त्या परत ग्वाल्हेरीस येऊन कांहीं गडबड करतील ह्मणून त्यांस आग्र्यास दूर अंतरावर पाठविलें. धोलपुराहून त्या गेल्या, त्या वेळीं त्यांचेजवळ ५००० पाय-
threw a damp upon the hopes of the annexationists...... When his refusal to put the question of the pension reached Calcutta, and it was known then that all tumult had passed away, intense was the displeasure in all quarters......Presently another demi-official letter arrived; this time from the Deputy Secretary of the Foreign Department-a 'mystic' one we may be quite sure-strongly expostulating with Mr. Cavendish upon his proceeding, and concluding with this significant remark:—'you have thus allowed a favourable chance to escape of connecting the Agra to the Bombay Presidency.' Of course the Resident's doom was fixed, though not just then declared. A few months afterwards, the Governor-General gratified his feelings of resentment by removing Mr. Cavendish to another native court."
