eloquent speech of Malhar Rao to the sepoys of Peishwa and Bande, the battle between Daya Baha- dur and the Marathas, and the movements and actions of the pleasure-seeking men and women assembled in the fair of Kalika are described with a powerful hand. Equally interesting is the grief of Malharji and his wife for the loss of their only dear child Khandooji and the advice given to them by Shankar Bhat, the family priest, in order to assuage that grief. The domestic life of Malharji is painted in very lively colors and in one or two places the writer has been remarkably eloquent. It appears to me, in short, that this poem on Malharji, contains not a few marks of poetic genius and that the work, if revised in a few places and carefully carried through the Press, will be a very valuable addition to the poetic literature of the Marathi Langnage.
