10 women who were pregnant, swore in to never go for sexdetermination test despite conceiving a girl during their first pregnancy. We congratulated them by giving them a saree. 10 newly wedded couples also swore in to never discriminate on the basis of sex. Many guys also swore against taking Dowry, domestic violence. We also had put up a huge board named 'Speaking Wall' on which many guys expressed their views passionately. The event received good coverage from the media. Some doctors complained against us to the commission that we trouble them for no reason. Commission, very well knew our track record and our work and hence, didn't even consider those complaints! During our work, child marriage was a constant issue. “It is comparatively easy to stop sex-determination tests than Child marriages," locals told us. We had around 9 districts - Usmanabad, Sangli, Solapur, Ahmednagar, Jalgaon, Buldhana, Jalna, Vashim and Kolhapur-to work on as Sex ratio was less in these districts. Based on our experience in Beed, we allocated Master-trainers in all these districts. But as the time passed away, the government didn't focus on these districts. We were in constant contact with them although it was the government's work. When the government changed in 2014, the responsibility of 'Beti Bachao' was shifted to the District's Child development department. District administration had been handling that project since 2014. Because of this, the coordination between different layers of administration got disturbed. The civil surgeon was supposed to apply the law, but the funds used to reach the Child Development department. So even if this national project seemed very attractive at first, it had many ground-level flaws and loopholes. It was like the army was somewhere on ground 1, the commander was on ground 2 and all the arms reached ground 3. There was no bridge between these departments. On the other hand, though the educational department was promoting 'Beti Padhao' (Educate girls), it was doing little to fulfil it for millions of girls. Their responsibility was never clear and therefore one more promising project went down the same road of failed administration and corruption.
