१४वा ] महाभारत. १८९ हीं यच्चावत् ते दूषित दृष्टीनेंच पाहतात. कारण, पाश्चात्यांचें तेवढे चांगलें, व त्यांजपासूनच इतर राष्ट्रांचें जीवनँ, हा त्यांजला वृथाभिमान झाल्यामुळे, सत्यशोधा- अंती जेव्हा जेव्हां त्यांची ती पोकळ घमेंडी खोटी होऊं पाहते; व धर्म अथवा तत्वविचार, शास्त्र अथवा कला, आणि ग्रामसंस्था अथवा स्थानिक स्वराज्य, इत्यादि सर्वांचा उदय प्राची दिशेकडे भरतखंडांतच प्रथम होऊन तिकडूनच सर्वत्र प्रकाश पडला, असें सप्रमाण माप जेव्हां त्यांच्या पदरांत पडतें; तेव्हां असूया व मत्सर, यांचे ते वंदे गुलाम होऊन, मनाची समता सोडतात. आणि हिंदूंचे मूळचें कांहींच नाहीं; त्यांचें जें ह्मणून कांही १ “ A contempt for all that is Asiatic too often marks our countrymen in the East though at one period the taunt might have been reversed."
