________________

In presenting this work to the Public, the author has to acknowledge with the deepest Sense of gratitude the pains taken by Rao Bahadoor Nana Morojee the Deputy Magistrate of Khandesh, in initiating and instructing him into the most difficult and useful science of Jurisprudence. The kindness and alacrity with which he undertook the task deserve great credit. His instructions have not only given his scholar an insight into and knowledge of this most important subject, but enabled him to Compose and Compile several new works on the game subject and thus become serviceable to his Countrymen at large. His affability, varied learning, and large experience joined with his good actions and virtuous and exemplary conduct need no especial mention hore, as they are so generally known. The author therefore leaves it to his readers to judge of the merits of this little work, and if they find any, he hum bly requests them to give the whole credit to his master. This book, is not however a true critarian by which to Judge the qualifications and acquirements of His worthy master. Such a production as this from his scholar is calculated simply to give the readers an idea as to how effectual his instructions have been, especially as he does not pretend to posedos any uncommon gifts of mind. Suffice it to say that to this learned jurist, he owes all the knowledge he possesses touching matters, which form the subject of the following pages, and therefore from a sense of duty feels himself justified in prefixing his name to a work which had it not been for his laudable exertions he would never have been able to present the world with. The author is not able to acquit himself fully of the obligations of this great man. ALI therefore he can do to evince his sense of gratitude is to sing his good qualities to the world, as he has done on the present occasion. (Signed) the Author.
