'Lek Ladki' was the first book on our 'Lek Ladki' initiative. Lek ladki translates to 'Dearest daughters' in English. This book was a symbol of our struggle against the misogynist mindset of the people. Our fight was against sex-determination tests and the people behind it. We took action against the doctor which helped us cut down the supply but the main problem was of the demand from the people. Our groundwork started with training 150 people from Beed. We started working with the village health committee, nutritional committee and other ground level committees to persuade people to not to take such tests. A network of trained officials was required to repel the orthodox mindset. For the opening ceremony of our program, many respected government officials including the collector, the district police head and others were present. My female friend was the village head of one village. We decided to arrange a meeting for women before the usual 'Gramsabha' 1) on 26th. We passed many resolutions like 'No give and take of dowry, no one will go for sex-determination tests, nobody will treat women impartially etc. We also decided to put the population of girls and boys on a board so that we could comparatively calculate and analyse the rise or decrease of female population. On the second day, there was 'Gramsabha' where almost everyone from the village were present.
