To make matters worse, the people who return after labouring for 8 months are a customer for many traders. Some sell them water during droughts, some provide illegal electricity and so on... Only a few migration workers know about their rights. Basic facilities lacked in these towns and they continue to do so. Political leadership doesn't play a crucial role in the development of these areas. Civil societies are functional but are under the influence of local leaders. Society is extremely superstitious. Thousands of rupees are poured in for Mandirs but not a single rupee is donated in building proper schools. Women related crimes are not registered but are extremely prevalent in the society adding up to the insecurity the people have towards raising a girl child. In labour dependent areas, a boy generally starts working from the age of 10. He is considered as a half scythe. One family together is a 'full scythe'. He works as a half labourer. Girls on the other hand are a matter of concern for families that migrate constantly. The areas in which they reside or migrate to are not safe for women and hence the insecurity appears. Girls are considered as a liability by the families and that's where the root of the problem is. Researchers at the Gokhale Institute found the same reason behind the decline in women population. To tackle a situation like this, there was a need to save girls and also to make them independent enough so that they will be able to survive and take their own decision in a hostile environment. Generation of independent girls needs to be made to ensure their safety and also to secure their social stability. Patriarchy had to be challenged by its roots in order to make the situation better for women and especially girls. We decided the framework for our work. We also sent a proposal to UNFPA. There are various committees at the village level in India which are supposed to ensure the welfare of the poorest of masses and especially women such as Village health, sanitation and nutritional committee.
