N. B. Jalap is certainly not our जैपाळ. The plant found in our country निशोत्तर (Ipomea Turpethum) is Indian Jalap. The plant known in Marathi as गुलबास is marabilis Jalapa. It is an exotic from the West Indies, introduced into India probably by the Portugueso.
