Dare ( dāer ) [ M. E. dar, I dare. p. t. (lorste, durste, cf. Gr. thrascin, to be bold. Sk. IT, to dare.] v. i. to have adequate or sufficient courage आवश्यः धीर m -धैर्य n -हिय्या m-हिम्मत f असणे. in cot., with g. of o., अंगीं साहस असणे, छाती असणे. २) venture, not to be afraid धजणे. D. o. t. to century to do or to undertake, to attempt courageously तीन-धैर्याने (एखादें काम) हाती घेणे. २ to challenge, to provoke, to defy ईन-पैजेने छातीवर हात ठेऊन सांगणे, आव्हान करणे, पुढे ये असे म्हणणें, तुच्छ करणे-मानणे. N. B.-The present tense dare is really an old past tense so that the third person is he clare (cf. he shall, he can); but the form he dares is now ofteia used and will probably displace the obsolescent he dare, though grammatically as incorrect as he shallo or cans. Formerly durst was also used as the present, Sometimes the old form dare is found for durst or dared.
