Bicorn, Bicornes (bikorn',-us) (L. bi, double, & corru, Sk. शृंग, a horn.] a. दुशिंगी, दुशिंग्या, द्विशृंग. Bicorporate (bi-kor'por-āt) [L. bis, twice & Corporate.] a. द्विदेही, दुदेही. २ hera. दोन धडांचा; as, "A lion having one head and two bodies."
Bicuspid (bi-kus'pid) [ L. bi, twice & cusp, cusp is, the point of a spear.] a. having two cusps or points व्यग्र, द्विस्कंध. B. n. a premoi ar tooth in man उपदाढ f. Bicuspids उपदंष्टा f, उपदाढा f.pl.
Bicycle (bī'si-kl) [L. pref, bi, twice & Gr. kyclox, a circle or wheel.] n. दचाकी, वेगाची लोखंडी पायगाडी f, द्विचक्रपादवाहन n, 'बायसिकल' f.
Bid (bid) [सध्यांच्या इंग्रजी भातील to Bid ह्या शब्दाचे दोन मुख्य अर्थ आहेत; (१) to offer (a price ) सांगणे-देणे; (२) to order, to commend आज्ञा करणे, हुकूम करणे. हा शब्द मूळ Old Teutonic beodan (O. E. beodan) व Old Teutonic bidjan (O. E. biddan) या दोन धातूंचे संकीर्ण रूप आहे. Bendan या धातूची to stretch out, to reach out, to offer, to present; hence, to communicate, to inform, to announce, to proclaim, to command अशी अर्थपरंपरा आहे. त्याचप्रमाणे bidjan, ह्या धातूची to ask pressingly, to bey, to pray, to require, to demand, to command अशी अर्थपरंपरा आहे. आतां जेव्हां ह्या दोन निरनिराळ्या धातूंचा to command असा अर्थ झाला तेव्हां ते वापरण्यांत घोंटाळा उपस्थित झाला, व एक धातु दुसऱ्याकरितां वापरूं लागले, व beodan धातूपासून होणारे अर्थ सध्याच्या Bid शब्दांत कायम राहिले. परंतु biddan ह्या धातूपासून झालेली भूतकाळ व भूतभूतकाळाची रूपें मात्र beodan पासून होणाऱ्या Bid शब्दाने घेतली. आतां biddan या दुसऱ्या धातूचा to pray हा अर्थ सध्याच्या to Bid prayers (to may or scey prayers) ह्या शब्दप्रयोगांत आढळतो. ५.t. to offer ( a certain price for) देणे, सांगणे, मागणी करणे. २ to aske any one to come, to invite घोलावणे, पाचारणे, आमंत्रण करणे; ass, “As many as ye shall find, B. to marriage." ३ हुकूम करणे, आज्ञा करणे; as B. him come. ४ to say, to eutter pr to express सांगणे, बोलणे; as, To B. welcome-adieu-farewell-goodbye-good morning &c. ह्या सर्व शब्दप्रयोगांतील Bid चा 'प्रार्थना करणें,' 'मनापासून इच्छिणे' असा प्राचीन अर्थ होता.
