PREFACE

In the matter of the revision of final proofs of a very largo portion of this work, I feel indebted to Mr. L. J. Sedgwick, B. A., 1. C. S., to the Rev. A. Darby, M. A., to the Rev. These gentlemen also made some valuable suggestions for the improvement of this work.

A special mention of some of the friends of this undertaking, who evinced a great interest in its completion in a reasonable time, will not be considered out of place here. Sir George Grierson, K. C. In regard to Marathi orthography, I always derived great help from Mr. Bhalchandra Shankar Shastree Dovasthali of the Nirnaya-Sagar Press.

Considering the difficulties of printing a bilingual work involving a frequent use of Full-stops, Semicolons, Commas, Dashes, Capital letters, Italics, Accents, Abbreviations, Brackets, eta, I have to offer my best thanks to Shet Tukaram Javaji Chaudhari, J. P., Proprietor, Nirnaya Sagar Press and to his younger brother Shet Pandurang Javaji Chaudhari.

The arduous duties of seeing the work through the press and of correcting the proofs before they were advanced into 'Final' were, most conscientiously, discharged by Mr. Bhaskar Vishnu Phadake, B. A. Also his services in the preparation and revision of some portion of tho copy proved valuable.

Last but not least, my special thanks are due to Mr. Mabadeo Ganesh Kale, M. A, Assistant Professor, Gujarat College, Ahmedabad, whose services were of unquestionable value to me in the preparation of the copy of the latter half of this work.
