The cost of the production of this work has come to about sixty-five thousand rupees. A portion of this sum was obtained from the Government of India, the Government of Bombay and the Government of the Central Provinces. Native states in the Maharashtra and Central India also aided me on the financial side of this work. But, my chief support name from the subscribers in advance who were kind enough to purchase the book in parts as they appeared. The expenditure, however, has not yet been balanced by the income.
In connection with the financial assistance obtained from Government, I have several reasons to be specially grateful to the Right Honourable Lord Crewe, the late Secretary of State for India, to the Right Honourable Lord Hardinge of Penshurst, the late Viceroy and Governor general of India, to.
