अपराध m, महा अपराध m, (ठरलेल्या सामान्य अपराधा (Misdemeanour) पेक्षा जास्त दुष्ट गुन्हा m. N. B.-In Feudal law felony was an act on the part of a vassal which involved the forfeiture of his fief. Crimes have, from a very early period, been distributed by the law of England into three classes or divisions : viz. Treasons, felonies and misdemeanours. Treason meant the violation of the allegiance due from a subject to the sovereign, Felony is an act or crime which involves the forfeiture of one's estate or property. All crimes which were not treasons or felonies were misdemea. nours. Felony was an important term in feudal law. It meant any act or crime which involved the forfeiture of property or estate, oven acts which had nothing of a criminal character about them were called felonies; such as, a breach of duty on the part of the vassal, neglect of service, delay in seeking investiture, injuries by the lord against his vassal. In course of time felonies came to mean capital crimes.
